AI-generated images for fashion design often contain inaccurate proportions, impossible construction details, and misaligned features (e.g., "kangaroo patch pockets over CF zippers"). Users need AI tools to generate style CADs and tech packs that are technically accurate and follow garment construction logic, allowing factories to follow them.
Next time you send me an AI-generated sketch or “tech pack,” I’m ghosting you. I say this with love they’re tacky, inaccurate, unrealistic, and have zero place in real product development. The only reason founders send them is because they don’t want to invest in a proper designer. They think ChatGPT can replace years of technical training. It can’t. I looked at a set of AI-generated measurements the other day and my mind was blown. Nothing made sense. The proportions were wrong. The construction was impossible. And the whole thing was based on a prompt like: “Make me a blazer tech pack with measurements.” AI is a great tool when used by someone who actually understands patternmaking, grading, construction, and garment logic. It’s not a shortcut for beginners who don’t know the basics. If you’re just starting out and relying on AI to generate your technical foundation, you’re not ready to launch a brand yet. And that’s not an insult it’s a reality check that will save you a lot of money and time. Good products start with good foundations. Good foundations come from real technical knowledge. AI isn’t a replacement for that not even close.
