Hi everyone, I'll be visiting Austria for my first time this September. I have about 9 days I'm looking to split between Vienna and seeing the alps, specifically interested in doing some day hikes between 2-6 hours in length. I'd prefer to take public transport but am seeing mixed suggestions as to whether a car is necessary. Any insight on the best places to stay as a home base to see the alps would be greatly appreciated, as well as hikes that can be accessed via public transport. Thank you!
