Users desire a "Duolingo for dating" concept, where they can learn how to build healthy relationships and develop self-love before engaging in traditional dating app interactions. This aims to make online dating less transactional and more human-centered.
Dating apps are passé. So what’s next? Everyone wants to find love, but does everyone know how to love themselves? What if we had a Duolingo for dating—a place where you’re tasked with learning how to build a healthy relationship before you can even "enter the chat"? This week, I casually pitched this idea to an innovation team at a dating company. It got me thinking more about how technology could truly improve human connection. There’s massive opportunity here, but a lot of thinking is still stuck in Tinder-binary-land. Swipe left or right, like or dislike—it’s reductive, transactional, and doesn’t get to the root of what actually builds connection. Imagine if the next wave of "people-find-love" tech went beyond profile pics and algorithms. I believe it will have to look wildly different from what we’ve seen before—one that nurtures real self-awareness, emotional intelligence, and a foundation for healthy relationships. I’d love to collaborate and think deeper on this vast, underexplored territory.
