EHR vendors and other patient information holders are encouraged to implement the new HL7 Patient Request for Corrections FHIR Implementation Guide. This standard allows patients to electronically communicate and track requests for record corrections from their FHIR app, replacing paper-based and opaque processes. Implementing this will improve patient participation and data quality.
🙌 😀 🎉 There is now a standard way to communicate a patient's request for their record to be corrected! The HL7 Patient Request for Corrections FHIR Implementation Guide has been published as a standard for trial use! It is in the international realm so it is designed to be suitable everywhere. This implementation guide allows a patient to communicate their request for their record to be corrected in an electronic manner from their FHIR app. It supports back and forth exchange with the potential fulfiller of the request, and allows the patient to track the status of their correction request. I encourage EHR vendors and others who hold patient information to accept these requests electronically so that patients can stop using paper and other burdensome and opaque processes to request corrections. I encourage FHIR apps to leverage this to help empower patients to correct their records. Lets get those records corrected! You can find the specification here: https://lnkd.in/eAFvPQZv So thankful to the community who made this possible. I am happy to field any questions about the guide and interested in your progress in implementation! Debi Willis Dave deBronkart Grace Cordovano, PhD, BCPA
