Introduce a feature that lets users guide the algorithm using natural language prompts to customize their feed according to their preferences, such as 'Show me more travel reels' or 'Less gym content.'
I had a product idea that could make Instagram’s feed way better. Right now the algorithm decides what we see based on things like likes, watch time, and follows. But sometimes one accidental like or a few seconds of watching something can completely mess up your feed. What if Instagram allowed users to directly guide the algorithm using natural language prompts? For example, you could type things like: “Show me more travel reels.” “Less gym content.” “More small creators and fewer influencers.” “More educational content.” “Stop showing me motivational quotes.” Basically, a “Customize Feed” prompt box where you can talk to the algorithm and adjust your recommendations instantly. We’re already used to interacting with AI using prompts, so this feels like a natural evolution of social media. Instead of guessing how the algorithm works, users could just tell it what they want. Curious what others think. Would you use something like this? Or could this break the way recommendation systems currently work?
