The user in post [4] had a severe reaction to a digestive enzyme supplement (Enzymedica Gold Digest) and ended up in the ER. The user suggests that they may be allergic to something in the supplement. A warning about potential allergic reactions should be added to the product label.
I've been having digestive issues for around a year. Have had an endoscopy that verified I don't have enzyme deficiencies for lactase, maltase, sucrase, palatinase. I've successfully narrowed my list of potential triggers to beans and onions. I've used Fodzyme with limited success. My neighbor recently recommended Enzymedica Gold Digest. I tried it out for the first time with some Thai food the other night and had a violently bad reaction. I took one caplet as I started eating. After about 30 min my stomach started feeling upset, so I opened a second caplet into a glass of water and drank it. Over the course of the next few hours, I developed severe stomach pain, so bad I ended up going to the ER. At the hospital, they ruled out anything serious and said the issue was either something bacterial from the food or a reaction to the caplets. The Thai food that I had contained some onion, but I've never experienced such a severe reaction to any food. Plus, my usual reaction to triggers is bloating and a lot of gas/belching. This time it was severe stomach pain with some bloating but hardly any gas/belching. Has anyone else had a bad reaction to digestive enzymes? Unlike Fodzyme, the Gold Digest contains a LOT of different enzymes at high concentrations. Maybe I'm allergic to something in there, but thought I'd see if anyone experienced something similar.
