Platform Teams should prioritize providing solutions for specific use-cases (e.g., 'How do I deploy a static website with SSL?') rather than merely abstracting cloud provider capabilities. This approach helps reduce cognitive load and provides clearer 'golden paths' for developers.
What is Developer Experience (DevEx)? Is it a mindset, a discipline, a framework, or perhaps a dedicated team? At PlatformCon I realized that Platform Engineering is tightly coupled with DevEx and Product Mindset. This makes Platform Engineering not just about software and systems engineering, but also about discovery and delivery. Understanding what developers need and building for it. It means it also encapsulates: ➤ Product Mindset - Platform as a Product ➤ Developer Experience - Reducing friction and cognitive load ➤ Metrics - So we can measure and improve DevEx That brought me back to a recent conversation with Anita Zbieg, PhD and Jon Kern about Developer Experience. They are doing very insightful and important work on understanding Developer Productivity and Developer Experience. So here’s my question to the community, and especially to Anita and Jon but also #platformengineering experts like Nicki Watt Luca Galante André Alfter Cornelia Davis João Alves João Valentim Arulraja Livingston Gregor Hohpe ➤ How do you define Developer Experience? ➤ And what patterns have you seen in how companies implement it? Would love to hear from folks building platforms, working in DevEx roles, or leading engineering orgs!
