I’d like to see an option where you can click directly on attachment slots and choose items from your inventory there, I think that would make things a bit easier.
I’ve put around 30 hours into Marathon and have been playing extraction shooters since 2019, here’s my honest opinion so far. This won’t be a comparison to other games because every game is great in its own way. I’ll list my top extraction shooters at the end. I think the game’s art style is exactly what they were aiming for. It really makes you feel like you’re exploring a lost civilization on an alien planet. There’s this constant feeling of “what the hell happened here?” that makes me want to dive deeper into the lore. The graphics look great and don’t feel dated at all in my opinion. The vibrant colors, especially on the buildings, are a really nice touch and fit the overall theme of the game well. I’m also surprised at how good the guns feel. Hitting targets is very satisfying, and I love the hit markers. The weapons look great, and there’s a solid variety of them. There are a lot of mods for the guns as well, which can feel overwhelming at first. I’d like to see an option where you can click directly on attachment slots and choose items from your inventory there, I think that would make things a bit easier. I can understand how that might make the menus more complicated, though. Maybe something similar could work for character cores and implants, but again, that could add confusion to the UI. I absolutely love the quest system and how necessary it feels. You need to complete quests for each faction to level them up, and as you progress, you unlock upgrades and items to purchase. Some upgrades require specific looted items, which makes the grind a bit tougher and makes loot feel more valuable. That, in turn, makes extracting more important and firefights more intense. I personally enjoy extraction shooters that handle questing this way, it gives everything more purpose and adds more to grind toward. Overall, I think the game is very solid. It does take some time to understand the menus and all the systems, but once you get past that learning curve, the game really opens up and feels great. My biggest issue with the game so far is how confusing the UI is and how overwhelming all the mods/upgrades are, I feel like I spend a lot of time reading in raid. I’d give it a 8.5 out of 10 so far. We’ll see how it holds up during the first few weeks after release. My top 4 extraction shooters: 1.Tarkov 2.Marathon 3.Hunt Showdown 4.Arc raiders
