User requests detailed partner access for the Moody app, emphasizing the need for the ability to give or remove access at any time. They suggest the feature should provide explanations and potential considerations (e.g., "usually around this time, your partner reports XYZ") rather than definitive statements, and offer suggestions on how the partner can provide support. They also propose allowing the user to input how their partner could support them.
The most requested feature has been the one I least wanted to build—and here's why that changed. Since launching Moody, one request has consistently topped our feedback list: partner access. Users want their partners to see their mood patterns, track symptoms, and understand what they're experiencing in real-time. I hesitated in building this as I've always envisioned Moody as a deeply personal tool. A space where you can build an honest relationship with yourself and your mental health, free from the pressure of external judgment. The app was designed to redirect focus away from how others perceive your moods and symptoms, creating a sanctuary for authentic self-reflection. However I do use the notifications to remind me each month not to pick a fight with my husband, as like clock work every month, I find my patience at 0%. But recently, something shifted. The volume of requests kept growing, and more importantly, I started listening to why people wanted this feature. Community is why we built the app and building for them is important to who we are as a business. We evaluate a feature with three core values every time: 1. User Value (ROI) This is our most requested feature because partners want to support users proactively. Instead of waiting for someone to explain how they're feeling in the middle of a difficult moment, partners can see patterns ahead of time and offer support when it matters most. 2. Data Privacy & Safety Users have control. You opt in to share with your partner, and you can easily add or remove access at any time. Your data, your choice. 3. Ease, Not Complexity We're designing this thoughtfully. Partners will see separate daily and weekly insights in their own simplified interface—no overwhelming data dumps, just the information that helps them understand and support better. Building It Step by Step As we develop this feature, I'm committed to sharing our journey y and have decided to use my platform here to also share how you build out features and the stages it goes through. All thoughts are welcome: How do you feel about sharing your mental health patterns with a partner? What concerns do you have about privacy? What would make this feature truly valuable for you?
