User complains about the inability to allow file uploads from anonymous forms within Microsoft products (implied Teams/SharePoint/OneDrive context), stating it makes no sense given existing 'request for files' functionality. This capability has been requested for years.
Do you want to be able to share files with external chat participants (1:1 or group chats) in Microsoft Teams? Soon you'll be able to, with a new update. For many of the smaller businesses I work with, external collaboration is an essential need every single day, and Teams often just isn't optimized for this (meeting recaps and Copilot anyone?). But before any enterprise admins' heads explode 🤯 with the prospect of this update: It will be OFF BY DEFAULT (well done Microsoft! 👏) The reason I'm excited by updates like this is that the collaboration barriers we see in products like Teams often just add a friction that slows things down. It's not like you haven't been able to share that file, just not in the way that feels most logical given every other chat app you've ever used. And the big downside of this friction is that different users find different ways around it that are more or less appropriate on the data governance scale. However, while we're at it, there's a long list of external collaboration friction points the Microsoft Teams team should have on the radar: 1️⃣ Meeting recaps and transcripts 2️⃣ Modern (Loop-based) meeting agendas and notes 3️⃣ Copilot in Teams 4️⃣ Certain Teams tab-based apps 5️⃣ Forms use within Teams Options to overcome collaboration barriers + organization (admin) choice in enabling them is the right path. Every organization engages with external users in slightly different ways and making Teams a suitable platform for collaboration - no matter who you are collaborating with - makes a lot of sense. This will be coming to targeted release early July and general availability mid-July.
