I am interested in trying my hand (mouth, voice box...!) for preparing audiobooks and other narrations (no music!) and wondering if someone in that area would be kind enough to share their thoughts about choice of microphones, headphones and editing software used by them. I am leaning towards a starting kit of rode x XCM-50, headphone probably a Beyerdynamic DT-770 pro (claimed to be better for editing) and a simple software like goldwave. Am I on the right track?
