[HomeImprovement] Develop a guide for safely removing old paint with lead

I have a bench that was on my parent's porch 68 years ago when they bought the house. No idea how long it had already been there. Every time the house was painted the bench was painted too, so I am sure the underlayers are lead. The top is starting to warp, I want to take it off and replace it or refinish and maybe straighten it a little if possible. my husband says he'll try but doesn't think it will come off with all the paint build-up. So I am researching paint remover for old exterior paint. Any recommendations would be greatly appreciated. I come from the generation where you could go into a paint or hardware store and the employees could tell you everything you would need to know. Now they just stare at you blankly and point to the shelf with the paint remover.
