conversion from free to paid was sitting at like 3% and i couldn't figure out why. product was good, pricing seemed fair, free tier was intentionally limited. sent a survey to free users asking what would make them upgrade. expected to hear the limits were too generous or pricing was too high or they needed features we didn't have. most common answer was i don't know what i'm missing. they were happy with free, had no idea what paid included, never thought about it. we'd buried the upgrade prompts because we didn't want to be annoying. turned out we'd made it too subtle. people literally didn't know there was more available. added a simple comparison page inside the product showing free vs paid features. put it in Gamma so i could update it quickly as we added things. conversion went from 3% to 8% in like two weeks. wasn't a pricing problem or a product problem. was a communication problem. people can't buy what they don't know exists.
