User reports issues with L2 charging in cold weather, including vehicle errors and inability to charge. Suggests a bug related to scheduled charging or low battery levels in cold temperatures.
Last night while my R1T was plugged into my home charger, it never charged. It was very cold, single digits in upstate NY. This morning I found the vehicle at 37% and a ‘vehicle error’ in the app that prevented charging. I still had plenty of range to get to work, so I left. At work I plugged into Level 2 public chargers, no dice. It just kept saying unplug and try again. Now I was nervous, as I was at 20% and likely wouldn’t have enough range to get back home. My vehicle is a 2025 LFP that is affected by the <20% range calibration bug and it already almost stranded me when that first cropped up a few weeks ago. I’ve been charging to 100% every 2-3 days since the 2025.38.30 update. There’s a 325kW Tesla supercharger down the road so I went there and plugged in. Thankfully it started charging, but was extremely slow, pulling around 32-35kW. I’m already late for work so I can’t spend 2-3 hours charging so after about 20 minutes I headed back to work. The battery was up to 56F and I used the precondition for fast charge on the way back to keep it warm. When I plugged into the L2 charger this time it worked. After about an hour I had to run out again for something work related. I was only down the road and back to the charger within 30 minutes and again, it wouldn’t charge. I tried plugging/unplugging several times and it wouldn’t start. I did a hard reset and plugged into again and it started charging. There’s definitely some weirdness going on here, so make sure you’re charging frequently in the cold and check on the vehicle before bed to make sure you’re gonna be good to go in the morning. If you use scheduled charging that starts late, you might want to check on it after that point for the time being. There are others on the Rivian Tracker forum reporting similar issues the last few days, so I know it’s not just me.
