User experienced controller burnout on a Piantor Split Keyboard due to 'risky TRRS disconnections'. Praises Anywhy Flake for using USB-C between halves to prevent this issue, indicating a need for more robust connection methods to avoid hardware damage in split keyboard designs.
🚀 New Project, New Keyboard, New Discoveries! Last weekend, I had to start an unexpected new project. I ran into issues with some docking stations, which unfortunately led to a controller burnout on my beloved Piantor Split Keyboard (RIP… or so I thought! 😅). Luckily, I managed to revive my Piantor by replacing the controller. But after going through that, I wanted to try something new—a keyboard that wouldn’t put me in the same risky situation again. That’s when, Felipe Ferreira (@tupinikeebs on instagram) introduced me to Anywhy Flake by Maksym Bohdan A.K.A. axseem — an Open Source hybrid split keyboard with some incredible features: ✅ Three sizes: S, M, L (40/46/58 keys) ✅ Cable or Bluetooth support ✅ USB-C connection between halves (no more risky TRRS disconnections frying controllers 🔥) ✅ Multi-switch support: Cherry MX & Kailh Choc on the same PCB (hybrid build FTW!) ✅ Multiple fast Bluetooth connections (ZMK-powered) 🔍 First Impressions: • Even without a case, it works amazingly well on my mousepad. (The case is printing as we speak! 🖨️) • I built the M (46-key) version—still not using the extra 4 keys compared to my Piantor, so I might try the S (40-key) version next. • Choc switches with MX spacing? Thought it’d be awkward, but nope—it’s fantastic. 🤯 • The real challenge? Soldering those super tiny diodes—frightening at first, but everything went well in the end! 😅🔥 • Overall, super happy with it! 💡 Thinking about making a video review on this—would you be interested?
