User believes that current text-based prompting in AI tools is not the future due to its iterative and often imprecise nature, suggesting a need for more intuitive and efficient interaction models.
Since mid-2024, I've been researching on design patterns used in AI interfaces. Unsurprisingly, most AI products had merely an AI chatbot or an AI assistant. But I was looking for useful features that would go beyond that, and address usability issues of chatbots. The results were quite impressive. Surely only a few dozen AI products went beyond a text box, but some allowed users to choose a role dynamically. Others used forced ranking to rank and sort suggestions. Others added filters and sorting to organize results by a particular attribute or preference. One striking example is Consensus (https://consensus.app) (attached screenshot), which provides a granular assessment of results, navigation between queries, compact view and filtering — all in one single UI. It’s refreshing to see AI experiences combining filtering and AI features in that way. Here are just a few examples that made quite an impression on me: Aino (GIS analyst): https://www.aino.world 👍 Bench (search + tasks): https://bench.io/ Consensus (sorting, filtering): https://lnkd.in/epP3SgNq 👍 DeepL (translation): https://deepl.com Dia (aware of browser tabs): https://www.diabrowser.com Dream Machine (fast editing): https://lnkd.in/et8Ss9KM Elicit (research tables): https://elicit.com 👍 Flora (creative canvas): https://www.florafauna.ai 👍 Intercom Fin (customer service): https://fin.ai 👍 Krea (fast image editing): https://www.krea.ai Miro (AI presets): https://miro.com/ai/ Scispace (search): https://lnkd.in/eSGk8DZg v7 Labs (AI-powered spreadsheet): https://v7labs.com 👍 WatsonX (accessibility + search): https://lnkd.in/ewERNN7B As I’m still researching, I’m looking for pointers to well-designed AI products that made an impression on you? What were some of the AI features that you found most useful and helpful? Please share the link in the comments, and what impressed you! Thank you, everyone — and happy to share what I learn in an upcoming post! 🙏🏾 #ux #design
