Users currently don't have an explicit option to accept a video call invite, which is seen as a small area for improvement in the LinkedIn video call feature.
I have observed that LinkedIn offers a video call feature but i was always weary of using it - old habits die hard, zoom, google meet and phone are my top 3 choices. I wanted to set up a call with a connection who works at LinkedIn, so I decided to give it a try. Here is my experience: Set up of call: Pretty simple, you do not need to ask anyone for their email ID, to be professional, ask for their availability, open the chat pop up and set up a call at that time. The call can be real time or scheduled for later. Post set up: Pros: 1. The set up was easy, schedule meeting, select time and send. Easiest call i have ever set up. Zoom required a standard integration set up which took a few seconds. 2. I did not have to follow up for their email id because the chat window serves as the messenger to send an invite. 3. You don't have to switch platforms and can save up on time lost otherwise from your already time-consuming job search phase. Cons: 1. I had to be very deliberate in noting what platform it is using for the video call. Some articles i found from 2020 say it should ask for the platform, zoom, teams etc. I was not asked for my preference. But there was a default selection of linkedin video meet. I could change it to zoom or teams. I tried a mock with zoom which sent the zoom blurb of meeting link, ID and password. For zoom meetings, you can trigger an email to send the blurb over. You cant do that for linkedin video meetings. 2. I am not sure if my connection received the option to accept or decline the meeting. I will wait on it. There was no option for me to request acceptance. Now I will just join and wait and hope the other person joins! Note that i didn't collect their email ID because the invite did not have to be sent by email. 3. I forget meetings after scheduling them, so i add them to my calendar. Could not find the option to add it to my calendar. Assuming there is no integration with my MS office calendar or google calendar. Also, not sure if linkedin is going to remind me, so i have to set a reminder for myself, on a platform i use, because this call is important. 3. If I make a mistake in setting the meeting up, there is no way to reschedule it. So, I better get it right the first time or I will have to delete the message and reset the meeting. These were my initial thoughts from using this feature for the first time today. Hoping to add some more information when i take the scheduled call. Have you used this feature yet? If yes, please drop your experience in the comments. #linkedin #productmanager #videocall
