Voice directions should provide distance cues that are more suitable for highway speeds, such as 'in a quarter-mile, turn right' instead of 'in 600 feet'. This would enhance safety by giving drivers more time to react to upcoming turns.
I'm in the US and currently use DoorDash and other delivery apps as my primary source of income, so I use Google Maps navigation a lot. I love the improved voice directions like "go past this light, then at the next one..." or "turn left after Starbucks". However, along with these improvements there has been a significant drawback...instead of saying, for example, "in a quarter-mile, turn right", the default is now 600 feet. This does not work if I am driving at highway speed! I am trying to keep my eyes on the road and can't always look to see how soon my turn is coming. By the time I hear "in 600 feet..." it's too late to turn off of a 60mph road. IDK if this is just my phone but I can see how this could become a major safety issue.
