We were going to have our wedding this June at a venue owned by the company my fiancée works for. It’s our absolute dream venue with a gorgeous and elevated vintage vibe, amazing views and incredible catering. We would never be able to afford it otherwise, but got it at a heavily discounted rate as an employee benefit. This wedding is all I have been thinking about for the past months, it feels like a dream come true. Well, we just found out that the company has been officially declared bankrupt. Everything is super unclear right now, they are resuming business as usual until the court has figured everything out, which apparently ”could take days, could take months”. So both my fiancée’s job and the situation with our venue are completely unknown. We have been told to wait and see. The issue is, of course, that we don’t have time to ”wait and see”, because the wedding is in less than three months and invites have been sent. I have been panic-messaging different venues and all of them are booked for all of June. Even if we somehow found a venue, we would not be able to afford an event of this scale without the discount. So far we have found exactly one available venue within our budget, but it’s basically a college dining hall and very much feels like one (not a nice one either, think fluorescents and laminate). They have given us a booking that we have to accept ASAP or risk losing it. We are so lost on what to do. The only saving grace is that we haven’t paid any deposits to the current venue. It seems our options are: 1. Stick with our current venue and hope they manage to resume business until June. It would be our dream wedding, but there would be a risk that they cancel on us right before the wedding, which would be unfixable. 2. Take the offer for the new venue and accept that we will not have the wedding that we dreamed about. Try to patch up the look with nice decorations and hope the love and joy make up for the rest. 3. Wait and see what happens while trying to look for other, better venues. 4. Cancel or delay the entire wedding. Several of our friends are missing out in other important plans to be there, and several relatives have already booked trips and paid for hotel rooms. All of these thoughts stress me out. My fiancée is obviously in a worse state because her job is on the line on top of all this. I would really apprecite any words of advice or condolences.
