A user is looking for better ways to manage the storage and access of non-media files across devices, specifically mentioning the need for improved search functionality and seamless access across devices. They are exploring how to integrate Paperless-ngx into their workflow for this purpose.
How do you all manage the storage and access of non-media files across your devices? In trying to understand how to use paperless-ngx (among other things) in my workflow, I realized the first question is storage/sync/access of non-media files (not photos, videos, music, etc). Excel, Word, PDF, csv, local scripts, etc. I use Microsoft M365 Business Basic with my own domain. Everything on any pc or mac gets saved to the local OneDrive folder and it syncs to the cloud and from there across devices. Native file structure for computers (mac and pc) and app access for iPhone and iPad. Also use OneDrive to pics for complaint or warranty claim to a computer by uploading to the correct folder in the app. If I need something that from OneDrive on any device, I search the machine (computer) or the app for the keyword or navigate to the folder. Search is far from perfect (especially for file contents when document is not locally downloaded on computer). How do you approach these types of files? I started this coming from a F50 company and appreciate having the access across my laptop, desktop, mac, iphone, and ipad. I like for each of my devices to be nearly interchangeable and continue a project from one to another. Something things need the power of the pc desktop, or the mac desktop, but beyond those having everything everywhere just makes sense and ease to me. I ssh/remote desktop from devolutions remote desktop manager and keep that xml in OneDrive for use across any of those devices. I do not have a NAS. I use a combination of Raspberry Pis and a (recent) proxmox machine for services (hass and plex/jellyfin; trialing paperless and copyparty with other services to come) and backing up OneDrive to a local HDD.
