The FAFSA application process should include measures to prevent financial aid staff from advising applicants to provide false information on their applications, even if the amounts are considered insignificant by the staff. This protects applicants from potential legal repercussions.
Hi! I’m submitting my FAFSA for the next school year, and the financial aid office on my campus told me to put $0.00 for the portion that asks for all money in savings, checkings, and in cash. I expressed my concerns to them, asking if I would get in trouble since I am technically lying on a federal application, to which they assured me that I would be fine. Is this true? They basically said, unless you have a significant amount of money, like 50k and up, it’s insignificant. I am just worried about it honestly. Should I try and see if I can change it?
