User reports that Duolingo's voice recognition for speaking practice is highly inaccurate, failing to recognize even native speaker recordings. This leads to frustration and a poor learning experience.
My frustrations about the AI slop aside... They've recently added this vocabulary speaking practice thing to their lessons and I hate it with a passion. Because to this day, their voice recognition is so bad, that you can literally play a recording of a native speaker saying a certain word, and 75% of the time, it will not recognize it. I tried this with the French word "cette" yesterday because it kept telling me that I was saying it wrong. Got a recording, waited for the vocabulary thing to come up with that word and played the recording to my phone. Duolingo did not recognize it. It's incredibly frustrating because I am saying it correctly. I mean, it's a very easy word. That feature alone has pushed me very close to cancelling my Super sub and deleting my account.
