Hi all! I’m planning on doing the Three Passes Trek in April of this year. I want to do this trek solo, but will probably hire a guide to help me go over each pass depending on how I feel as I’m kind of shitting bricks for that part. My background: I am not that experienced as a solo trekker, I have hiked a lot and done so solo in rural places, such as in northern Laos, but never anything like the Three Passes trek at a high altitude. I’m very comfortable travelling alone and have done so for months at a time in all sorts of places. I am doing all the prep I can and am **planning my trip and route meticulously to ensure that I acclimatize well**. I will walk up to Lukla from Salleri (unless there is some place better I should start) rather than flying in and plan to do the trek in at least 21 days starting from Lukla going counter-clockwise. I’m not rushed. I am fit and am ramping up my exercise routine for the next month making sure I prioritize HIIT based workouts/hill climbs on bike/incline walk/stair master to increase my VO2 max and stamina. I’m working out regularly and doing 6 sessions at least a week. Why I want to do this trek solo: I really don’t want to hike with a group/guide. I think I will get far more from the experience doing it solo and it is a personal goal of mine. I also want to **go at my own pace, take my time to acclimatize, take rests when I need, wait a couple days if weather needs to clear so I can go on rather than going off a strict schedule**. Although I don’t have experience hiking at this altitude and doing a trek for this long (my past trekking experiences have been max 2 days lol), I do feel confident that I can complete this trek solo. I’m not an idiot, I know my limits. I have a Garmin GPS inReach satellite device, I will download the most recent version of the route. I will also be taking altitude sickness meds. I’m looking for a physical and mental challenge in this experience and the Three Passes will be that. I am very open to getting a guide before each pass in the village before the passes. **Please offer your advice. Am I crazy? What was your experience? Thank you so much!**
