The user found that taking spirulina (500mg tablet before or during a meal) helped reduce bloating associated with SIBO/IMO. They suggest other bloating relief supplements should consider adding spirulina.
Hey all, I've had sibo/imo for 10 years now, gone through multiple rounds of treatment with some improvement but no cure. Bloating is one of my most persistent symptoms. As part of a somewhat unrelated quest to get more iron, I started taking spirulina, along with iron supplements. I quickly noted a strong correlation between taking spirulina and a reduction in bloating. I haven't seen any correlation between the iron supplementation and a reduction in bloating, but I can't rule it out since I started both interventions simultaneously. I waited for 2 weeks before posting, just to make sure there was a difference. I am a perimenopausal woman with Hashimoto's, IMO, and non-anemia iron deficiency. I don't have a theory yet as to why spirulina would help, but it really is helping. I take one 500 mg tablet before or during a meal that would normally cause me bloating, and it seems to help that day and I wake up with a flatter stomach the next. The recommended amount of spirulina is a couple grams a day, so 500 mg per meal. Seems like a pretty safe low amount to mention to other folks. The tablet is just spirulina, no additives, so I don't think the brand matters! I hope this helps you!
