A user experiences frequent awakenings and is unsure of the causes. A feature that tracks sleep disturbances and analyzes patterns could help users understand their sleep issues better and find solutions.
Around mid-2024, I wasn't sleeping very well. It usually took me 30–60 minutes to fall asleep and I often woke up feeling not fully rested. Also, my sleep hygiene wasn’t good. I’d often use my phone in bed before I slept. But I would sleep through the night and get 6-8 hours. At this time, I decided to make a conscious effort to improve my sleep. I stopped using my phone in bed and started going to sleep earlier. I gave myself an hour to fall asleep plus another 8 hours before I'd wake. For the first few nights this worked, I felt rested and energized in the morning. But all of a sudden, I started having sporadic awakenings during the night. At first this happened a few times a week. I’d wake up once in the night, briefly and for no clear reason, then fall back asleep within minutes. However, I noticed my sleep quality starting to decline even further than it was before. Over the next several months things gradually worsened: * Awakenings became more frequent throughout the week * Sometimes I had trouble falling back asleep (being awake for anywhere between 30m to a few hours during the night) * I occasionally woke up to pee (though I’m not sure if the urge woke me or if I just went because I didn't want that to be the reason I couldn't fall back asleep) I was still getting 7-8 hours total but I did not feel good when I woke up. I saw my family doctor and tried things like Zopiclone, melatonin supplements, and improved sleep hygiene. Nothing seemed to help, so I eventually did a sleep study in January 2025, which found moderate sleep apnea (AHI \~17). I’m still confused how this diagnosis came out of nowhere, since I had never had issues waking up during the night before. So in early 2025 I tried APAP therapy, but after \~30 attempts I couldn’t fall asleep with the mask on. I then switched to a Panthera mandibular advancement device (MAD), which I could actually fall asleep with. But I didn't notice any significant improvement in sleep quality. In September 2025, I did another sleep study wearing the MAD. It showed the device was working as my AHI dropped to \~2. Throughout 2025, my nighttime awakenings didn't really improve. Currently: * I sleep with my MAD * I wake up once every night to pee (sometimes I'll take my MAD out after this point because it's hard to fall back asleep with it) * Some nights I also have 1–2 additional brief awakenings * I usually get 7–8 hours of total sleep, but still wake up feeling unrested If I were to rate my sleep quality based on how tired I am when I wake up and throughout the day, I'd give it a 2/5 (where 5 is fully rested). For the past 3 weeks, I’ve been trying sleep restriction therapy. My wake time is 7am and my bedtime started at 12am, but I’ve been gradually moving that earlier by 15-minute increments week by week. I have yet to notice any significant improvement, with the exception of one night during this period where I didn't wake up during the night at all. I'm running out of ideas here and was curious if anyone here has insight into what else I can do? Some other potentially useful information about me: * 24M, 170cm tall and \~145lbs * Job: Software developer * I go to the gym 3-4 times a week * Family physician/sleep doctor say I exhibit some symptoms of Generalized Anxiety Disorder (GAD), as I tend to overthink, worry about things, etc. I have tried therapy a handful of times throughout the past year and half but have not ever gone on a consistent basis
