Users are frustrated with the overwhelming number of ads in Instagram stories, which disrupts the user experience. Implementing better ad management or reducing ad frequency could enhance user engagement.
I’ve never really posted on Reddit before… I find myself here, happy to be in a media space with fewer, albeit increasing, ad count. You go on Instagram, and the ads damn near outweigh normal posts. I began to prioritize stories, like most people, to actually show personal things and reach other humans I know in real life. Now, there is an as between EVERY story, if not 2 ads. Below is a bit of a timeline of how I remember this change happening I don’t know if it has been the same for you guys as well, but this “too far gone” ad increase happened to Snapchat too. They had a small, mostly failing explore section. However, it did have a few interesting things. When you went to view them though - unskippable 5 second ad every 15 seconds. You cannot possibly take in content that way. This Snapchat issue moved me exclusively to Insta and TikTok for random explorer page/fyp type viewing. For a while, TikTok legitimately had a good app. Ads weren’t too high (creator earned commission posts were a bit much) but the algorithm was great and the content was interesting. Eventually, the algorithm got stale for me and instagram reels got a bit better. But this brings me back to where I started. There are just too many ads on both! I can’t do it. It’s also forced upon you, I feel like on Reddit you can scroll right by, but clicking through stories on insta is too jarring. I’m looking at who posted and what the post is but I have to make sure it’s not a f%*{*^g ad every time. The sad thing is it’s making me care less about one possible good outcome of social media: connecting to people you know (death by comparison aside). Moreover, I don’t see how these companies can revert back and give up the income. Am I crazy? For longer form content, like many, I’m on YouTube. I straight up HAD TO pay for premium. It’s well documented how bad the ads are there. I just sure hope the other medias don’t start there subscription model soon lol. I hope it is the death of Social Media.
