Photos taken in Portrait Mode and backed up to Google Photos are blurry and unusable. The user requests that Oppo make the placeholder "preview" or "thumbnail" TEMP photos non-uploadable so that only the Post-Processed final image can be backed up to Google Photos.
Hello, **DISCLAIMER:** With the sole intent to help Oppo improve and become an even bigger player in the flagship phone space I post this - hoping that Oppo will do their very best to fix this unfortunate issue. **THE ISSUE**: Photos taken in **Portrait Mode** backed up to Google Photos (*no matter if in Storage Saver and in Original Quality)* are blurry and unusable. It seems what's being backed up to Google Photos (if you have auto backup turned on all the time) are the placeholder "preview" or "thumbnail" TEMP photos, without all the computational photography and/or post-processing applied to them. Deceptively, on device, the photos show up great on the on device Google Photos app, but only when you look at the photos on a different device (iPad, Windows 11 desktop, shared via Google Photos, to a different Google Photos user) the placeholder "preview" or "thumbnail" TEMP photo are shown, which are, again, unusable. **WORKAROUND:** Disable auto backup on Google Photos and only enable it when all Portrait Mode Post-Processing is done. Or, disable backups via Mobile Data and keep device WIFI turned off and turn WIFI back on, when you want to backup photos (problematic with Android Auto users). If, by any chance, you still get a blurry TEMP photos backed up to Google Photos - manually download the photo from the device, by connecting it to your PC or MAC via USB cable or using O+ Connect and then upload the downloaded photo manually to Google Photos. As you can see, all of the workarounds mentioned above are cumbersome and shouldn't be needed in the first place. **POSSIBLE FIX BY OPPO:** Make the placeholder "preview" or "thumbnail" TEMP photos non-uploadable so that only the Post-Processed final image can be backed up to Google Photos. **EXAMPLE:** See attached an example of a photo backed up to Google Photos automatically (BLURRY UNUSABLE TEMP PHOTO) and a backup that I delayed for 5 seconds manually turning the Google Photo function OFF and back ON again. **IN CONCLUSION:** Such issues can not be replicated on Google Pixel, Samsung Galaxy or Apple iPhone phones, so this issue should not be existing in the first place. The Portrait Mode on Oppo Devices is magical and it's such a let down, that when you try to share these amazing photos to other Google Photos users, they get a blurry, low quality mess. **APPEAL:** OPPO, this is an issue with your software and I hope you will not try to shift blame to Google Photos upload quality or GOD FORBID - user error. Hoping this will actually help, thank you kindly in advance.
