The new "Extend" feature in Grok Imagine allows combining clips for up to 30 seconds, but only the first 6 seconds can be upscaled to 720p. The extended segments are currently stuck at 480p, which is a significant limitation. Users need the ability to upscale the entire extended video to 720p for better quality.
Grok Imagine has quietly rolled out a new video generation feature and it brings a popular workaround directly into the app. The free generator caps videos at six seconds. Until now, many users extended clips by screenshotting the last frame and feeding it back into Grok as a reference to continue the sequence. Now, Grok includes a built in “Extend” option, allowing you to combine clips for up to 30 seconds. This helps a lot with character consistency. Need something longer? The screenshot method still works.. but don’t expect it to remember your character. It’s a nice update.. however nothing is perfect. And while you can upscale the first 6 seconds to 720p. The rest of the extensions are currently stuck at 480p. Which is a serious limitation right now. Hopefully this is only temporary. Future updates do sound promising to make grok a serious contender in the video generation race. It also sounds like the ability to explicitly set the last frame as a reference may be coming in a future update. It’s not competing with Seeddance 2 just yet … but it’s free, and it’s encouraging to see these steady, incremental improvements.
