The user is disappointed that the new Black Library App will remove the ability to download ebook files (epub/mobi) for use on dedicated e-readers (Kindle, Kobo, Nook). They prefer e-readers for their e-ink displays, larger screens, reduced distractions, accessibility features (e.g., dyslexia-friendly fonts), and suitability for children, and want to avoid buying through third-party vendors.
I’m extremely disappointed that they’ll be retiring the ability to download ebook files so we can read them on our e-readers. Instead forcing us to read them on smaller, more distraction filled, non e-ink screens. I’ve sent a complaint in. I don’t expect it to do anything, but I hope it’s one small tally in a count kept of dissatisfied customers. If you want to do the same, their email address is [uk.custserv@gwplc.com](mailto:uk.custserv@gwplc.com) and a copy of what I’ve sent is below: Good morning, As a long time reader of Black Library publications, all the way back to when Gaunts Ghosts was first printed and before. I wish to submit a complaint about the upcoming Black Library App. Specifically this section of the FAQ found [here](https://www.warhammer.com/en-GB/explore/black-library/black-library-app/faqs#:~:text=Can%20I%20upload,your%20preferred%20eReader)[.](https://www.warhammer.com/en-GB/explore/black-library/black-library-app/faqs#:~:text=Can%20I%20upload,your%20preferred%20eReader) **Can I upload an ebook I've bought to the ereader I already have? (Kindle, Kobo, Apple iPad etc.)** *No but the great thing about the new Black Library App is that it provides everything you need for exploring, reading and listening, all within the App. You can still purchase Black Library eBooks and Audiobooks through alternative vendors to use with your preferred eReader.* I do not want to read ebooks on a tiny phone screen. I want to read ebooks on an e-reader. Like a Kindle, Kobo, Nook, etc… e-ink displays are more restful. They’re not backlit, so I can read in the room while my children sleep. They’re less distracting than smart phones. The displays are larger. They provide accessibility features for neurodivergant people, like dyslexia friendly fonts. They’re can be given to children without concern that the child will leave the book and start accessing content that is inappropriate for them. Gating content into a smart phone app puts a barrier to entry in front of your less financially gifted customers; as e-readers are far cheaper than smart phones; a problem especially compounded by limited print runs and scalpers buying up all of the physical books. I respect and understand that you have to combat piracy. That keeping your digital books behind a walled garden allows you to push updates and revisions when spelling errors are identified or the continuity needs to be updated. I do not want to buy ebooks through the kindle store front. I do not want to give Jeff Bezos more money. I want all of my purchase price to go to you and your authors. I have always enjoyed that I could purchase ebooks from the black library website and then send them to my e-reader of choice. All I want is the ability to download an epub or mobi copy so I and my children can read in a way that is most accessible and appropriate to us. I am extremely disappointed by this decision and sincerely hope that you will reconsider. Kind regards
