The user feels that Mortal Kombat 1 has lost its original identity, with a character select screen that is too peaceful, serene, and minimal. They prefer the older style, like Deception's, which was stormy, had rough metal UI borders, and uneasy music, conveying a sense of impending doom. They want the game to return to a darker, more engaging aesthetic for the character selection.
I get it, it's Liu Kang's era. But I mean, it just feels weird. Using the character selects as the main "vibe check", Mk1 feels peaceful, serene, but also incredibly minimal and doesn't really make me feel interested. Yeah the two dragons in the back are cool, it's fun to imagine who built them, what they do, and what they can represent. But everything surrounding it is dull. Then you have Deception's Character Select, which is more barren but makes me imagine. Why is it so stormy, is this a bad omen, why is the borders of all the UI made of rough metal? Even the music makes you feel uneasy, it's got the vibes of "Things are getting bad, hope is running out. We need to pick a character".
