A user is concerned if offering a product for $0 to a small group could cause issues or get their shop flagged, indicating a need for clearer policy guidelines.
Looking for some advice before I set this up. I currently sell digital products on Etsy, but I’m thinking of putting one product (not live yet) on a different platform that allows pay what you want. I want to give it away for free to about 10 people who’ve already shown interest. This is mainly to test the product, but I’d also love for them to leave ratings and reviews if possible, so my store already has some credibility. Etsy doesn’t allow pay-what-you-want pricing, and this product also doesn’t really match the vibe of my existing Etsy store, so I don’t want to put it there right away. I’ve been looking into Gumroad but honestly I’m super confused. There are articles saying they shut your shop for no reason and your money gets stuck. But some people claim it’s a great platform. I’d love to hear from Indian sellers who are selling digital products about their experience with Gumroad recently. A few specific questions I have: 1. Could having 10 people buy my product for $0 cause issues or get my shop flagged or shut down? 2. Are there any hidden fees apart from the transaction fee + currency conversion fee? 3. Is there a better alternative platform that works well for digital products and pay-what-you-want pricing? 4. Have you run into any issues with payouts? 5. What is the scene with taxes/gst and stuff? Etsy handles most of it so I don’t have to worry much, but what do I need to be careful of with Gumroad? I have a sole proprietorship and I’m GST registered. Appreciate any honest experiences or advice!
